Enjoy a 7 day trip to Finale Ligure, the place considered to be the official capital of enduro riding in Europe with the prestigious Enduro World Series (EWS) happening here every year. In november riding temperatures are still around 15-20 degrees, beautiful sea views from the trails and nice beaches are the perfect setup for a great riding experience. But what makes Finale really special is the huge number of natural enduro trails, there are over 50+ in all shapes, sizes and difficulties. If you take a look at Trailforks it looks more like 100+ just around Finale. Here you will find everything from flowy to tricky, rocky to rooty, fast to extra technical slow sections. But don’t expect smooth trails, you won’t find them here. Finale is purely about experiencing natural trail conditions at their best esp. because of the loose and rocky terrain sea-side trails are famous for. If you haven’t dialed your suspension to eat up rocks like butter, you will feel it all the way to your bones.

As always for the duration the whole trip you will be guided by a fantastic certified local guide in order to get the most out of the whole trip. You can look forward to the Classics, i.e. the trails that are the most famous and almost everyone who has ever visited Finale as well as the most gnarly stuff, the difficult trails such as Cacciatore, Little Champery, DH Uomini or Ca Bianca, as well for those trails that are much more hidden in the backcountry of Finale and Pietra. Our guide team has for example been guiding Richie Rude from the Yeti team while in Finale for the EWS.

With shuttled uplifts for the whole trip there will be only minor pedalling of a maximum 500m uphill each day. And since the slopes are oriented to the south, you will often have the most beautiful view of the sea and the surrounding hills directly from the trail. After the ride in the saddle we will head to the beach to grab some delicious food that Finale is almost as famous for as for the trails. The sea food here is beyond delicious, which often is the key factor when we visit Finale. Cold beers, great wine or whatever your poison is will be part of your daily routine.

During the 4 full days of riding you will first go broad and try as many of the coolest trails as possible, though by far not all as there are too many trails for one trip or even three. Then once you have a taste of what we like the most, you will either continue discovering more or return to the ones the group liked the best. As riding all day for 4 days would squeeze out the juice even from the roughest enduro rider you will have a rest day in-between (probably in the middle, or depending on the weather) with the option of adding either a full riding day or a few shuttles up to the trails to take it “lightly” instead. During the off day you can also go check out San Remo and its extra gnarly trails if the group is crazy enough, but this will be decided by the group together on site.

For more details about the daily program please see the itinerary tab.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Sunday
Prior to the trip we will connect riders so that everyone has a comfy seat for the trip, sharing the costs for the gas and the use of someones car, which is still far cheaper than renting a van and a trailer. Early morning departure between 7-9am from Bratislava with the drive taking about 11-12 hours depending on traffic and pitstops required on the way. Arrival and check-in in the apartment in Pietra is planned between 8-10pm. If lucky you will be able to grab a beer and dinner before going to bed early to kick off the riding adventure the next morning.

Day 2 – Monday
After a mutual (or individual) breakfast you will do a quick Bike & Safety with your guide check to make sure our bikes and gear is in order and we’re ready to depart for the day. Once done and all geared up we will meet with our driver who will take us to the first trails from the Classics (Base Nato, Roller Coaster etc.) so that we start it nice and slow (or fast) and get a first taste of the terrain and features. With the guide you will determine the specific trail choice based on group preferences, level and trail state, however as an example you might first do the Base Nato trail, Madre Natura, 115 and then take the transfer either towards Crestino or Ingeniere. Then you will get lunch nearby in one of the local restaurants and continue the day say with Pino Morto or Oribago to stay within the area and get some harder action on slightly rougher trails. After the riding is done the driver will either take you back to the accommodation to get off all the sweat and dirt, or drop you off directly at the beach in Finale or Pietra to get dinner, drinks and absorb all the fantastic riding we’ve done so far.

Day 3 – Tuesday
To switch gears a bit this time you will be picked up by both guide and driver and will get a different experience from Finale deeper into the wilderness either to the Backcountry to far less ridden and crowded trails or you may get the 4×4 and get a tour of the fantastic trails above Pietra like Oltre Finale, Hiroshima, Titalana or Hellboy. In-between of all the wild riding you will grab lunch at one of the local huts in the middle in the mountains and continue discovering trails in the area, or depending on the weather and preferences you may return lower towards Finale and finish the day up there. For dinner you may figure out something special like diving into a huge portion of Sushi in one of our favourite restaurants in the area. If the group feels like it you may go skinny dipping after dinner to feel the cold of the sea in late october, which is not for the faint of heart.

Day 4 – Wednesday
Planned as a rest day you can decide if we want to spend it together as a group or individually with getting some tan on the beach, playing calcetto and getting drinks or ditching resting altogether and going back on the trails if you feel like it. You can pedal for free or grab a shuttle or two to some of the favorite trails close by (not included and paid separately). You can also go for a hike somewhere in the area as there are very nice spots even off the bike for those who would like to really keep the bike in the closet for the day.

Day 5 – Thursday
Back in the saddle this time you will meet our guide and most probably bring the game up a notch by attacking some of the infamous and more difficult trails in the region. Among which are Cacciatore, Ca Bianca, Little Champery, DH Uomini depending on which ones are rideable at the time. These are not only a really good technical challenge, but also lend themselves well to some really sharp photography. In the afternoon you can take things more lightly and go have a look at Cromagnon, Neanderthal or Otzi, again depending on the groups preferences and current state. As before you will end the ride up either at our accommodation with cooking something together or getting dropped off in town and eating out with ending up with a drink at the beach.

Day 6 – Friday
On your last riding day you won’t slow down the tempo just change the scenery and together with our driver drive up towards the Issalo trails, where you will ride some of the most fun trails in the region altogether. Choosing between Issalo or Issalo Extasy and then continuing onwards to our favorite trail Revenant, you can either do repeat it once again or choose something close by like Toboga Di Canova. Then you will grab lunch and ride the famous, fast and fun Roller Coaster, which is one of the longest and probably best known trails in Finale. From there you can criss cross the road and take Metanodotto down to Pietra and have our driver to bring us up to the trails above our apartments on Monte Grosso, which are fun and flowy with the benefit that riding ends directly at the apartments without the need for a further transfer. Alternatively you can still take the opportunity and go try out some of the other trails like Briga Sinistra & Briga Destra, X-men etc. it will be all up to the group. At the end of the day you will all sit down behind a feast and celebrate this fantastic trip and its successful conclusion.

Day 7 – Saturday
The day of departure starts off with the check out, packing all belongings, saying Arrivederci to the local crew and getting on your way home. The expected return is in the evening between 8-10pm.

Accommodation

We will be accommodated in modern bungalows specifically built to suit bikers with a beautiful view of Pietra Ligure and a terrace to have breakfast on. Each bungalow accommodates up to 4 people on comfortable beds, we try to stay away from double beds or bunk beds as we know good sleep is the most important thing to get right before a ride. Our accommodation is located at the end of the Monte Grosso trails so if we want to drop in another run we can always do it and end up right at our place.

Difficulty

Finale Ligure is the capital of Enduro riding and there are more than 50 trails to choose from. However, these are really Enduro trails and it is necessary to take into account that these are not smooth flow trails like in many other locations. On the contrary, you can expect gnarly sections on each trail, so even the “flow” trails here do get there fair share of technical action. Thanks to its seaside location it is a very rocky bike experience that Finale is famous for. Most of the trails are of medium difficulty (i.e. blue, for example on Trailforks), but it is certainly necessary to count on a slightly higher difficulty than ordinary blue trails, for example like those in Slovakia. In addition to the blue ones, we will definitely look at some (or most 🙂 of the red and black trails as well to challenge our technique. However trail choice will of course be based on the preference of the group.

It is important to be able to assess your abilities well and get off the bike without shame and pass it through difficult passages. However, we will have the ride itinerary planned so that we get used to the terrain and increase the difficulty gradually and can get ready for it, without jumping straight in. You can look forward to significantly improving your skills and terrain reading on this trip.

As part of the booking process we will contact you and check basic riding experience to ensure safety yourself and the whole group. Our goal is to set up a relatively balanced team of riders in order to maintain a healthy riding pace during the entire trip so that everyone is safe and has fun.
