Want to enjoy your MTB in a much more pleasant weather, with a nice view of the sea and on fun trails? Then join us for this 4 day bike vacation to Croatia where we will discover three beautiful riding locations fully shuttled and guided – our beloved Rabac, Grožnjan and a new addition Kanfanar in Istria. Departure is on Thursday afternoon, arriving back at home on Sunday evening with 1 day of vacation required.
Our first stop will be a hot new destination in Istria called “Enduraga” by the locals. The trails are located above the village of Kanfanar. They can be both shuttled and pedalled as the uphill trail is relatively mellow and not too long. Here 7 trails will be waiting for us with 2 being currently finished. They provide the perfect opportunity for a full day of amazing riding with trails offering everything from easy, fast, flowy trails towards tricky technical ones, that require tons of control and technique to get down.
The second stop will be in Rabac a riding paradise by the sea, with stunning views right from the trails, with around 5 different trails including a pump track and skill center of varying difficulty and length. As there is an unending amount of loose stones, from pebbles to fist-sized rocks the difficulty of the trails is rather medium to advanced, even though the trails themselves are not too steep or tricky. The beauty of Rabac is mostly in the amazing sea views with the islands in the distance as well as a visit to the beach after the riding. Depending on the time of year you can either take a quick polar bear dip or go for a full swim if the water is warm enough.
Groznjan our third and final riding spot is on the other side and to the north of the peninsula offering a more challenging riding experience with 6 trails of intermediate difficulty (blue & red) for which the trails in Kanfanar and Rabac will prepare us well. It is also one of the main spots for the Slovenian SloEnduro race and has a very unique vibe both in terms of the riding and the country. The trails are very narrow, fast, but with speed become quite tricky as you need to pay full attention not to get off the trail. On the horizon there are nice hills all around which makes for a very different view of the Croatian country-side. The trails can also be shuttled so you won’t have to pedal that much.
The package price includes accommodation, shuttling by a local driver with a van and trolley and guiding for the duration of the trip by the Traildeer team.
Difficulty
Enduraga as the first location sports 7 trails mostly in blue and red difficulty with the surface being hard packed soil and solid rock hidden in relatively dense mixed forests. What makes the riding here interesting is that similarly to Grožnjan, the trails are relatively narrow with trees lurking almost too close to the trail for comfort. On top of that there many many natural obstacles from which to drop, hop or manual from, which makes the ride all that more fun.
Rabac is a great place for intermediate to advanced riders on beautiful trails with the views of the sea all around in fantastic weather. Although the trails are relatively easy without sketchy sections, don’t be fooled. The main thing why Rabac is not suited for begginers is the fact that there are loose stones almost on every meter of the trail. From fist sized to pebbles, you always need to be careful about your wheel slipping when you hit a rock. The upper parts are more difficult and rocky, the bottoms are in a forest, which ads to the variety and fun factor. The forest parts have much fewer rocks, so it’s a nice break and a change from the top part. There’s also a great pump track and a jump trail for skill training which we can take advantage of.
Grožnjan is a very different location with a bit more difficult trails, which the first days in Kanfanar and Rabac should prepare us for well. Here the trails are enduro-specific with red difficulty, meaning many roots, rocks, steep sections, shoots, drops and everything you would find on a good enduro trail. There’s a ton of relatively short but steep chutes which can be rolled, dropped or hopped adding air time to each ride.
In terms of fitness we will have a shuttle so there will be only some minor pedalling involved during all three days. But you have to be prepared for these three days to be physically demanding with riding each day.
Itinerary
Day 1
Thursday afternoon we will depart from Bratislava (we will connect all drivers so everyone has a place for themselves and their bikes) and drive for about 6,5h (breaks included) to the town of Kanfanar, where our riding adventure will start the next day. This will be our base for the entire three riding days in terms of accommodation. You can look forward to a nice Agroturismo location with beautiful country, pool and great food. As well as drinks.
Day 2
On Friday morning we will gear up and start our riding experience with a quick bike & safety check and then drop into Enduraga bike trails, starting from the easiest and working our way up to the most difficult ones. Those who prefer riding only the less difficult trails are of course welcome. The trails will be shuttled and since the shuttle drive is only about 10 minutes we can do tons of loops in the whole day. After the ride we will be greeted by our hosts with a tasty local dinner to satisfy our energy starved bodies after the long riding day.
Day 3
On Saturday after a good breakfast we will be picked up by our guide and driver who will take us to the top of Rabac Bike Centre, where we will enjoy the trails the whole day with a good lunch in the middle. We will start off nice and easy with fast flow trails to start with, and progress steadily to the longer trails like Espresso with stunning views of the sea as well as to the gnarliest tracks like Babewatch, Highlander or Scorpion. Thanks to the shuttle there will be only little pedalling and we will ease into riding nicely. After the riding we will get delicious dinner and have some drinks by the sea.
Day 4
After the previous days “warm-up” on Enduraga and in Rabac we will continue to increase the difficulty and fun factor on the trails on Sunday. For our last day we will pack up our stuff and check out of the apartment since we will be going north. This time the guys will bring us to the lovely town of Grožnjan for a hearty 3/4 day of riding in the western part of Istria for a full load of 7 enduro tracks. Every year the annual SloEnduro race is being held here so the trails are in prime shape! We will warm up on the 2-3 easier (blue) trail runs and then upgrade to the 4 red trails, all between 1,5-2km in length. We can grab a quick lunch in-between or leave the food for the way, for example some tasty Leberkäse in Austria, depending on how much riding we want to put in. At around 3pm we will wrap up the ride and trip altogether, say goodbye to our guiding/driving crew and head home arriving between 9-10pm.

There are multiple bike shops here so most things can be bought or repaired also on-site, just make sure if you have something specific for your bike, that is not readily available in bike shops to take it with you. We will do our best to get any issues fixed ASAP so you can continue your ride.
Bike
As this is an Enduro MTB trip, please make sure your bike fits the category, a full suspension bike with at least 140mm front and back, ideally more.
Accommodation
We will specify accommodation closer to the date. However it will be 2-3 person rooms in an apartment or bed & breakfast on a standard comfort level, so that we get a good nights sleep, a hot shower and have space to put our things to dry. Our bikes will be stored safely for the night.
Guide/s
We will be guided and shuttled by amazing local guides who know the trails in and out. Also our Traildeer delegate will accompany the riding and organize all activities locally around accommodation, transportation and most importantly riding (communication with local guides, planning, scheduling, meeting points etc.).
Cancellation
Traildeer cancels
In case we need to cancel the trip for any reason we will refund the whole fee in full. We’re fully insured and financially covered so whatever happens, if we need to cancel a trip from our end, you will receive your money back.
Rider cancels short trip (0-3 days)
Please contact us ASAP if you need to cancel the trip for any reason. The following terms apply:
- up to 1 weeks before the trip 80% of your fee is refunded, we keep the reservation fee to cover costs of finding a replacement
- up to 2 days before the trip 50% of your fee is refunded to cover the costs of a vacant seat and potentially not finding a replacement
- less then 2 days before the trip we cannot refund any fees, as we already have incurred fixed costs with accommodation, guides and we will not be able to find a replacement
We will try our best to find a replacement and try to refund the most we can if you have to cancel, but please keep the above conditions in mind if we do not succeed.
