Finale Ligure is considered the be the unofficial capital of enduro riding in Europe. The ideal riding temperatures around 20 degrees in spring and autumn, beautiful sea views from the trails and nice beaches are the perfect setup for a great riding experience. This place offers a huge number of trails (over 50) with a ton of  variety in terrain and difficulty. Here you will find everything from flowy to tricky, rocky, rooty, but don’t expect smooth trails, you won’t find them here. With motor powered bikes we will enjoy some of the very best trails without killing our legs in the process and we can even try some of the eMTB EWS trails there. And since the slopes are oriented to the south, you will often have the most beautiful view of the sea and the surrounding hills directly from the trail. After the riding we will head to the beach for something to eat and a good drink of Italian wine or a good cold beer. The sea food here is beyond delicious, which often is the key factor when we visit finale.

We will do 4-5 days of riding depending on our fitness and battery level and the temperature of the water at the beach. At first we will go wide and try all the trails so that we get a taste of what we like the most and then we will either continue discovering (as there are too many trails for one trip) or repeat some of the ones we liked the most. For more details please see the itinerary tab.

Difficulty

Finale Ligure is the capital of Enduro riding and there are more than 50 trails to choose from. However, these are really Enduro trails and it is necessary to take into account that these are not smooth flow trails like in many other locations. On the contrary, you can expect gnarly sections on each trail, so even the “flow” trails here do get their fair share of technical action.

Thanks to its seaside location it is a very rocky bike experience that Finale is famous for. Most of the trails are of medium difficulty (i.e. blue, for example on Trailforks), but it is certainly necessary to count on a slightly higher difficulty than ordinary blue trails, for example like those in Slovakia. In addition to the blue ones, we will definitely look at some (or most 🙂 of the red and maybe even black trails as well to challenge our technique. However trail choice will of course be based on the preference of the group.

It is important to be able to assess your abilities well and when needed get off the bike and pass push the bike through difficult sections. However, we will have the ride itinerary planned so that we get used to the terrain and increase the difficulty gradually and can get ready for it, without jumping straight in. You can look forward to significantly improving your skills and terrain reading on this trip.

As part of the booking process we will contact you and check basic riding experience to ensure safety for yourself and the whole group. Our goal is to set up a relatively balanced team of riders in order to maintain a healthy riding speed during the entire trip so that everyone is safe and has fun and the pace is smooth without too long brakes.

Itinerary

Day 1
The first and last day of the trip will be dedicated to travel as Finale is a 12 hour drive from Bratislava with about 1-2h of brakes in-between amounting to a full day adventure in the car. Please refer to the Transportation tab for more info on transportation. We will meet in the morning and depart for our destination arriving at our accommodation in the evening to get some drinks and maybe a bit of food before going to bed.

Day 2
Our first riding day we will first do a full bike and safety check to avoid any issues or injuries as well as a briefing for the day ahead. We will be picked up by our local guide who will take us into the heart of Pietra Ligure showing us the best way uphill and then leading us down the most fun trails in the area. At midday we will have a great local lunch and charge our batteries (both physical and electric) so that we can continue our ride through the afternoon. We are currently planning the specific itinerary with the guides so please stay tuned for the route/trail description. After the riding we will enjoy fantastic foods and drinks in either Pietra or Finale. We have some delicious restaurants for sea food, pasta, pizza and steak and each night we will try something else.

Day 3
Our 2nd riding day we will head over to Finale Ligure to check out what it is like to ride the “Classics”. As there are too many trails even for multiple weeks to try we will need to decide, which ones we prioritise. But we will definitely do some of the funniest Finale has to offer like Base Nato, Roller Coaster, Ingenere and others. Depending on the group setup we will see about going for the more difficult trails and edit the itinerary as we ride.

Day 4
On our “rest” day we can either decide to really rest at the beach, do a hike in the mountains, go climbing or just enjoy the ocean at a coastline bar or restaurant. Alternatively if there’s enough juice in our legs and our bikes we can decide to do a shorter exploration of some of the more local trails like Monte Grosso, or on top of Verezzi.

Day 5
After having a rest we will venture out for a longer ride into the mountains going more into the backcountry for an exploration of the local mountains. Possibly climbing up to the highest points to the trail start of Issalo Exctasy and then down all the way to Pietra. We will be planning out this all day trip in detail and update the details as soon as we have it.

Day 6
On our last riding day we will look back on all the memories from the trails and choose a route to go enjoy the ones we loved the most. Alternatively of course we can go exploring new ones as well, it will all depend on our preferences. After the ride we will have a big dinner to talk about all the great adventures we’ve experienced during the week and go to bed with tired legs and a happy smiles.
